We met up at 7 am and said goodbye to our first host family. We spent the first half of the day in the company of the Millilani Sunrise Rotary Club that took us to Pearl Harbor. It was an amazing experience and the tour gave us an excellent impression of the events on December 7, 1941, which led to the USA entering World War II. After that trip they took us to the central part of Oahu where we got to see what is left of the Dole plantations operations (pineapple, sugar cane, coffee), which have moved to South America in the latest couple of years.
After lunch we were taken to the Eastern part of Oahu by the Waianae Rotary Club, courtesy of Bob Sullivan, who allowed us time to go to the beach to swim and relax. In the evening we were treated to a potluck (everyone brings a dish) where Sabrina and Louise learned to dance to native Hula dance. (They were pretty good). It was an excellent evening.

At lunch we had our first presentation for the Honolulu Rotary Club at the Royal Hawaiian Hotel, which is a very nice hotel right on Waikiki beach and has a lot of history as it is where many presidents have stayed while visiting Hawaii. The presentation went very well and afterwards we went home with our new hosts to get settled in as the next couple of days had full schedules. Also we had our second presentation in the evening at Diamondhead Rotary Club, which was also located at a hotel right at the beach…so yes, we have a hard time concentrating when you have a sunset over Waikiki beach in the background).

Today was the first day with vocational visits for the team members. One in the morning and one in the afternoon. At lunch we had a presentation at the Waikiki Rotary Club which went very well and we had a great time with the members in a relaxed and humorous atmosphere. The evening was spent with our host families. Mikkel and Stephan’s hosts decided to take them to the Waikiki Yacht club where they had a nice dinner at the marina

This was a day with a full schedule. We all got up at 5 am to make it to the Metropolitan Honolulu Rotary Club for their morning meeting where we gave our presentation. After that we all had a vocational visit before meeting up at the Honolulu Design Center (which is started and owned by a Dane who is now an US citizen, Thomas Sorenson). Then it was time for a second vocational visit in the afternoon. In the evening we gave our presentation for the Honolulu Sunset Rotary Club at the Waikiki Yacht Club.

We met at Starbucks close to the center of Honolulu with the Hawai’i outgoing team that was in Denmark last fall (Kristina, Lance and Joel). They were our guides for the day and took us on a tour of Bishop Museum. One of the guides there actually turned out have ancestors in Vejle, Denmark, which she had visited and thus spoke a little Danish. After the museum tour we headed to a sushi restaurant in downtown Honolulu called Doraku. The food was excellent and so was the company. The afternoon was spent at the beach which was something that we really hadn’t experienced enough :-). In the evening a club on the Eastern part of Oahu hosted a barbecue potluck where all the host families also attended.
