We met up at the The House of Volcano restaurant located in the Hawaii Volcanoes National Park which is where the Rotary Club of Volcano holds its weekly meetings. It was a foggy morning so we could not see the view but it is located just at the edge of the volcano Kilauea. Truly amazing place to meet up every week! After our presentation we had an amazing day courtesy of Albert Jeyte. We went to a winery, had lunch at his lodge, looked into active steam vents, some old lava tubes and of course went to see the active volcano. Just ten days before a “small” hole had opened up in the crater of Kilauea so we were only allowed to go to the visitors center. So on one hand we could not get close but on the other hand we got to see a tower of steam coming out of the crater.

For dinner we met up with rotary members and their spouses at Audrey and Jim Wilsons house where Audrey had made an amazing lineup of Hawaiian food. It was one of the culinary highlights of the trip and it must be said that Audrey is a very good cook. We were each given a chance to give a short speech about our experiences and could reflect upon the fact that the trip was nearing its end.

Today we had to get up early to board the plane to Maui at 8:18 a.m. and we had to get from the volcano to the airport in Hilo which is quite a drive.
